A new study by the alert software DeskAlerts has suggested that employee engagement strategies could benefit from the addition of a BYOD (bring your own device) scheme.
While researching BYOD penetration in the US marketplace, the business communications solution found that an increasing number of workplaces are implementing BYOD schemes. However, what was more significant in the final research report was the reasons why such arrangements are gathering pace.
Anton Vdovin, Project Manager at DeskAlerts, said, “While we weren’t too surprised to discover that BYOD is now more popular than ever, we were fascinated by the reasons prompting this shift. What we found is that many workplaces noticed a real uplift in employee productivity and engagement when BYOD was up and running, which makes this type of agreement between management and staff a very interesting one for those revising or reconsidering their employee engagement strategies.
“At no cost to the employer, BYOD appeared to make employees feel more at home in their workplace and certainly more productive. We think this increase in productivity likely prompted wider rollouts which in turn led to even greater engagement strategies. This is incredibly interesting from a business communications standpoint as it shows how just changing the tools at hand can result in much more effective practices and processes.”
Of the key factors identified in the study, DeskAlerts also cited the ease with which BYOD can be implemented. With no cost to the company it’s also incredibly cost effective and quick – employees can bring their own devices, such as tablets or netbooks to the office the very same day. From an employee perspective, BYOD was discovered to have prospered because employees were willing participants. They were found to prefer using their own devices, which often they were more familiar and comfortable with, which meant tasks could be completed quicker and with less stress. This led to greater feelings of job satisfaction, greater productivity and an overall happier workplace.
